honeymoon and
decided their
hometown friends
needed it, too.
Gordon Segal
opened the first
Crate & Barrel store
in Chicago in 1962.
The shelves were
overturned crates
and barrels. He
forgot to buy a
cash register for
opening day.
Sixty years (and
hundreds of stores)
later, our mission
remains the same:
To bring beautiful
design and great
value into the homes
of our friends.
Modern then, still modern now.
Great design is timeless.
Over the years, we’ve become known for certain
things that are classically Crate—clean lines, smart
design and a thoroughly modern point of view.
