summary
A ham is not only a great way to feed a crowd, but it is also a really beautiful centerpiece and largely hands-off cooking time. It is also really difficult to mess this one up, as it’s already fully cooked! We’ve added a super flavorful sweet glaze that balances perfectly with the saltiness of the ham.
ingredients
- 1 cup apricot preserves
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ cup fresh orange juice
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 fully cooked, bone-in, spiral-cut ham (6-7 pounds)
directions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F. Place the ham, cut-side down, in a roasting pan.
- Add the apricot preserves, honey, orange juice and Dijon mustard into a saucepan and set over medium heat. Cook, stirring often, until the glaze thickens, 6-8 minutes. Using a pastry brush, brush about â…“ of the glaze all over the ham. Transfer to the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the ham and baste with another 1/3 the glaze. Bake the ham for 20 more minutes.
- Once again, remove the ham from the oven and brush with the rest of the glaze. Transfer back to the oven and bake until the internal temperature reaches 140°F, about 30-40 more minutes.
- Place the glazed ham on a serving platter and serve at once.
notes
If the glaze gets too thick in between bastings, simply rewarm over medium-low heat.
Garnish ideas: surround with arugula and halved mandarins or kumquats and bay leaves.
Serve leftover ham with biscuits and grainy mustard.
The Dijon mustard in this recipe is necessary. First of all it thickens up the glaze so it will stick better and second, it cuts a bit of the sweetness from the other ingredients.
