There is truly nothing as iconic as a perfectly made classic martini. Of course there are delicious variations, but a true martini is just three ingredients: gin, vermouth and orange bitters. Serve this perfect martini recipe in a traditional glass with three olives on a pick and you are in business. Cheers!
ingredients
- 2 ounces top-shelf gin
- ½ ounce dry vermouth
- 1 dash orange bitters, optional but highly recommended
- 3 pimento-stuffed Spanish Queen olives
directions
- Place your martini glass in the freezer to chill.
- Add the gin, vermouth and orange bitters to a cocktail shaker and add ice. Shake for 10 seconds and strain into the chilled martini glass. Garnish with 3 olives on a cocktail pick and serve at once.
notes
A classic martini is made with gin. You can, of course, swap in vodka for the gin in The Perfect Martini recipe.
Chilling the glass is a must—this drink is meant to be served very cold.
Shaken or stirred? While stirred is traditional, we shaking a martini for the super-cold results.
The best olives for a martini are the Spanish Queen pimento-stuffed olive.
To make a dirty martini, add 1–2 tablespoons of olive juice.
We can’t resist a briny olive but if you prefer, you can substitute a lemon twist for the olives.
